Jim O'Brien
Director of Customer Marketing
Barnes & Noble

Jim O'Brien is the Director of Customer Marketing for Barnes & Noble, where he leads the company's dual-channel email marketing strategy. Barnes & Noble reaches millions of customers each week with coupons and promotions that are coordinated across its retail stores and Barnes & Noble.com.

Jim has 16 years of experience with online media, including direct marketing, e-commerce, and publishing. During his tenure at American Express, he developed the company's first global email marketing strategy, encompassing all divisions and product lines. Before that, Jim launched the e-commerce and e-mail marketing programs for webmail pioneer Mail.com.

Jim started his career with Ziff-Davis, where he rose to executive editor of Computer Shopper magazine while spearheading some of the earliest mainstream media coverage of online trends and managing one of the PC industry's first comparison shopping services on ZDNet.
